Traveling with a border collie has proven to be challenging at times. However, it can also feel like accompanying a celebrity. This cutie tends to attract dog-lovers of all ages. The smiles and conversations shared are truly heart-warming.
We have tried various seatbelts and harnesses, but these just won’t do for Charlie. Although he enjoys new places, riding longer distances can be stressful. One item we have found to be well-received by our favorite canine is this soft crate www.amazon.com/dp/B00CLA14J8 which secures in the backseat by seatbelt and a loop over the headrest. It has zipper doorways on either side (making in and out of the car a piece of cake), it also has a zipper doorway in the front (for a bit of in-car freedom while waiting with one human for the other human). Inside, he has a nice removable pad and his favorite toys for comfort.
Kudos to Maryland’s Welcome Center (mile marker 39 on I70 eastbound) where we not only found very nice facilities for the humans, but where the dogs are also kept in mind. Separate from the picnic area and next to the playground is a porous asphalt loop with grass and trees – and picnic tables for dog-companions. Between the dog area and the playground for young humans is a water fountain for both. A very nice break from the road.
