With two states remaining in the Northeast, we returned to a favorite running organization: Mainly Marathons. Jeff has previously participated in their New England and Dust Bowl series. This time, their Independence series provided his states #33 and #34: Delaware and New Jersey.
One of the first things we do? Locate the race! Mainly Marathons provides GPS coordinates along with their location descriptions – very helpful at times – and their vehicles are always a welcome sight.
This series began with Delaware at Lums Pond State Park. A beautiful location with plenty to do … … oh, and run a marathon, of course!
One of the cool things with these races is ringing the victory bell when you finish. Of course, there is also race bling. Besides the series shirt, a nice touch is the state medal for each in the series along with a holder. Runners can participate in one race or all of the races or any number of races in between.
Between days 1 and 4, we returned to a hotel we liked from the previous year – Best Western at Hunt’s Landing. This pet-friendly hotel has a pond, with a gazebo on an island, where wildlife can always be found. This natural setting beneath green mountains is a restful location near more than one of the races.
Jeff completed state #34 in Stokes Forest.Afterwards, we headed for home.
